5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (27 June - Results & Review)

Downs...

4. One Seriously Bitty Opener

JC Mateo Jimmy Uso

Jimmy Uso vs. JC Mateo was basic and poorly formatted, but that might've had something to do with reports that the power outage and 30 minute delay forced WWE to shave time from matches. Those normally well-placed ad breaks? All over the place. At one point, a commercial interrupted Uso getting a big boot up in the face of JC suddenly. Like, SmackDown was fading out during the connection - that was an issue all night.

Teething problems hanging over from the production snafu earlier in the show continued, but something else is true: Jeff Cobb just isn't clicking as part of the WWE roster. He has a few decent power moves, but something is missing for Mateo in WWE, sadly. He isn’t all that interesting as a character and certainly doesn’t feel like a good enough replacement for Jacob Fatu by Solo Sikoa’s side.

These guys went through the motions here before JC’s win, and even the story of Solo wanting Jimmy back by his side fell flat in front of the Saudi Arabian crowd mid-match. Fatu’s post-match save got a pop, but something was off generally. You do not need to see this bout or even the angle that took place following the bell.

Jacob saved Jimmy, they glared at one another, Solo scarpered, then Fatu blasted Mateo with a moonsault. Hopefully, the United States Title collision between Jacob and Sikoa at Night Of Champions will be a lot better than this. You've got to fear for JC's future once creative takes him away from Solo too.

Forming a tag-team with another midcard straggler may be his best bet.
